Each July, I run a mock exam morning at Poppies 11 Workshop in Urmston. This year's mock exam is on Saturday 13th July from 9 to 11am. This mock session is for CEM only. Your child does not have to be a pupil of mine to take the exam. Mock exams are valuable to both your child and me. They give them the chance to see exactly how the exams may feel and how quickly time flies when they are working in a strange place that is not home! They also give me the chance to see how well they work under time pressure and that enough progress is being made. What they are not designed to do is to tell you whether they will pass for grammar in the real tests. Most pupils score fairly well on the mock exam, but the scoring system is very different to the one used by the grammar schools themselves. So, while the mock exam is not a perfect indicator of the final outcome, it is an important part of the whole preparation for the real exams. My mock exam morning comprises of two full length tests that mirror the CEM exams they will sit. They are taken in silence, timed, and use all the same rules as the real exams. There is a 15 minute break where I provide refreshments (it's not all hard work). The price of £25 includes written feedback of how your child did, detailing what went well and not so well.
